~ Grilled Lunkers ~

Deep in the frigid lakes of Volgiev lie the sedate lunkers. They are large, darkly-colored fish with remarkably long whiskers that are very sensitive to electricity and are used to sense everything that goes on around the lunker in the depths. Such a fish is not that rare to find, but they are extremely rare to catch because they have no interest in normal bait. Only an expert with a spirit fishing rod can lure them into being caught.

With rod in hand, the wielder lets electricity pulse from the line of the rod, enough so that a lunker will be attracted to the hook, thinking it is prey. The more energy used, the larger the lunker the fisherman may find, but the less attracted a smaller lunker will be because they fear that something deadly is waiting at the end of the line. In order to catch anything then, the fisherman has to constantly adjust the energy output for the best chance that something will bite. This, of course, is extremely taxing on whoever is wielding the rod, demanding a great deal of practice to truly master.

Once caught, lunkers are fairly easy to prepare. Their flesh is thick, bright white in color, and does not have too strong of a smell to it. There are not too many bones to worry about either, so once the skin has been descaled and the insides have been cleaned up a bit, the main body can be cut into large steaks and grilled over a fire. Avoid using much of any seasonings, because the cooked flesh has enough flavor to stand on its own. Any parts like the fins or whiskers left over can be used to make a wonderful soup stock for later.
